Why More Women Are Choosing Non-surgical Facelifts

Facelift surgery has always carried a stigma. Currently, it’s thanks to the popularity of plastic surgery “fails” shared on social media, in gossip magazines, and in celebrity entertainment news outlets.

It’s no wonder how the attention has shifted to non-surgical cosmetic procedures, which are often featured on TV and women’s magazines.

Even Good Morning America has a daily spot showcasing new related cosmetic technologies.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that Americans spent more than 12 billion dollars on cosmetic enhancements in 2014 and that of all the procedures carried out, more than 80% were nonsurgical in nature. These figures are evidence of the rising popularity, acceptance, and affordability of nonsurgical procedures.

And guess what? Even procedures for men are up by 43% over the last five years!

Leading the pack of nonsurgical procedures are facial treatments (4 of 5) that deal with wrinkle management and skin smoothing:

  • Botox
  • Dermal fillers
  • Hair removal
  • Chemical peels
  • Microdermabrasion

Other procedures that have also seen an increase in demand are treatments to improve pigmentation issues (IPL or intense pulse light) and to tighten and lift the skin on the face (Ultherapy, the first and only FDA-approved nonsurgical device to lift the eyebrow, chin, and neck).

Furthermore, new technologies are focusing on facial rejuvenation, and the existing ones are improving their performance. As a result, the trend is likely to see further growth of nonsurgical treatments in the coming years.

A Few Historical Facts

Did you know plastic surgery as we know it, dates back several centuries?

Gaspare Tagliacozzi (1545 to 1599) is considered to be the founding father of plastic surgery. He worked as a professor of anatomy and surgery at the Bologna University.

Tagliacozzi wrote the first text book about plastic surgery. In this text book, he described the world’s first “nose job”. He also developed techniques for restoring deformed ears and lips through skin grafting.

The Bologna Anatomy Theatre contains a statue of Tagliacozzi holding a nose in his hand. Plastic surgeons hold the statue in high reverence![/box]

Are Perceptions About Facelifts Changing?

Yes. If you think about it, having a nonsurgical facelift is not much different from getting a haircut, styling, and makeup at a salon.

How so?

It used to be that the only way to get a facelift was through surgery—involving anesthesia, a medical facility, an overnight stay, pain medication, staying out of sight for a few weeks, and so on.

Today, you can walk into a med spa like SKINovative in Gilbert, get the procedure done, and walk back out—as simple as going to the salon.

Nonsurgical procedures have also gone through a phase similar to the air travel industry. There was a time when the masses could not afford to travel by air.

Now, most of us can choose to fly instead of driving. The same is true with facelifts; it has become affordable enough for the masses.

Truth is, you have an innate desire to feel good about the way you look. It is the reason why you choose to have stylish haircuts, wear makeup, and buy a variety of clothes and shoes.

And there is absolutely no denying that looking good may have financial, social, and emotional benefits. How you look plays a significant role in your life, be it in securing that coveted job, in injecting a dose of confident charm into a stagnant relationship, or even in making a good impression on a first date or a business meeting!

For Whom Are Non-surgical Facelifts?

If you’re over 40, you most likely have noticed that you’ve lost a bit of fullness on your face.

Your lifestyle, genetics, skin type, and the environment are important factors that affect how you look as you age.

Besides a few wrinkles, the most noticeable changes include the following:

  • Loss of volume in your cheeks
  • Lowered eyebrow
  • Drooping upper eyelid
  • Sagging skin under the eye
  • Loose skin under the chin or double chin
  • Loose skin on the neck
  • Visible age spots

These changes are normal. As you age, you tend to lose fat on the face and the elastin that holds the skin tight.

The latest technology allows targeting one or more of the issues mentioned above at a time. So, if you’ve made up your mind about needing to address any one of them, you are a candidate.

You can also consider yourself a candidate for nonsurgical facelifts if you belong to one or more of the following categories:

The Young at Heart!

You fall into this category if you want to regain a more youthful look! You are physically active and energetic, and you want your outward appearance to align with your emotional state. You say things like “I want to look as young as I feel.”

The Superwoman

You wish to reverse the effects of stress or neglect on your appearance. You’ve dedicated much more time to serving others—the kids, husband or wife, work, church, etc.—than taking care of yourself. When you look in the mirror, you say to yourself, “I look tired.”

The Genetically Challenged

If you are in this category, you simply desire to look your actual age. You probably got into the nightclub at 18 with a fake ID without a double take. You are confident and often conservative. It helped you “get” the job, but now you’re ready to reverse the clock and look like yourself. And you wonder why mostly “older” men approach you.

A Nonsurgical Facelift Offers a Stress-Free Approach to Looking and Feeling Rejuvenated

There are many reasons women opt for a nonsurgical facelift. Here are a few:

1) It is a quick procedure that takes as little as 30 minutes.
2) The results are natural-looking lift and skin tightening.

4) The risks are negligible when performed by a highly skilled and qualified practitioner.
5) The recovery period is short. In most cases, you can get back to your normal routine within a day or even in just a few hours.
